1./ Size

Jensen VX7020 and Jensen VX7022 are both double din head units. So if your stereo head can accommodate 4-inch stereos, the Jensen VX7020 and Jensen VX7022 would fit perfectly. I think the size is large enough to view your movies and other media files. It shows the phone addresses, names and other hands-free calling feature clearly and thus lets you control the settings easily.

2./ Display Quality

When it comes to displaying quality, the difference is only by inch. Since both units are manufactured by Jensen, the features that pertain to the display quality is likely the same. Whatever the distinct differences are, each ensures crystal clear quality.

  • Jensen VX 7020
  • The VX7020 uses a 6.2-inch high resolution TFT touch screen display. The interface is user-friendly and quite easy to navigate. Another plus is its responsiveness to touch which is highly commendable. Not too sensitive, though. It responds well with just a soft touch.

The display can also be customized with five different background images and IU colors and an option for different front panel illuminating colors. I personally like this feature as it allows me to match the colors to my car’s interior.

If you’d like to play some DVDs or CDs, this multimedia receiver is very functional. I tried my old music CDs with it and it just plays seamlessly. I also had some DVDs of my favorite movies and I got to watch some of them with this receiver. It works great!

  • Jensen VX7022
  • Just like the VX7020, the Jensen VX7022 also features a 6.2-inch high resolution TFT touch screen display. Just as I expected, the responsiveness to touch is the same as the VX7020. The interface and navigation are also hassle-free.

Okay, so moving over to the CD and DVD player, it also works great. I get to listen to my music CDs with this receiver as well. I’m a huge moviegoer so having all those favorite DVD movies played with the Jensen VX7022 is a great deal for me. Well, of course, I don’t watch movies (or even a peek!) while driving!

If you want to customize the display, the options for the Jensen VX7020 can also be found in this stereo. Five different background images and IU colors, and thousands of front panel illuminating colors are all available.

3./ GPS Navigation System

I often go out on long road trips so a reliable GPS would be a great help. These two stereos have a built-in navigation system that can get you to the route you need to take. However, the maps or the database needs to be updated to get more accurate details.

Both Jensen VX7020 and Jensen VX7022’s GPS navigation system are pretty impressive. It is one of the major features I checked first before anything else. The maps are detailed and accurate. A However, you need to get the database update from time to time. The first update was free, though, but it also informs you that the succeeding updates will be at a cost.

The Jensen VX7020 maps seem to be outdated for over 5 years (which is a turn-off to me) while the Jensen VX7022 looks like 2 or 3 years behind the current maps. That’s why I think the updates are necessary. And if you’re willing to spend some bucks for the future updates, you have to do so.

As for me, the cost is just fine since I’ve allotted a budget for this right before I had them. But if you’re on a tight budget, you probably have to just stick with the free update.

4./ Connectivity and Phone Compatibility

A stable connection between the phone and stereo is what most stereo manufacturers worked on. It seemed to have been a necessary feature every touch screen stereo should acquire, particularly those that have their music playlist from their smartphones. Good thing these Jensen stereos are equipped with a Bluetooth connection.

  • Jensen VX 7020
  • I tried pairing my iPhone 6 to this stereo through a Bluetooth connection. Impressively, the pairing was no trouble. I picked out a playlist from my phone and it streams the music flawlessly.

  • Jensen VX 7022
  • Just like the VX7020, the VX7022 uses a Bluetooth connection. I’d say the connection between my smartphone and the stereo is stable. The pairing was also easy and it worked perfectly fine. Though it is mainly designed for IPhone, iPod or any Apple gadgets, it also worked well with my Samsung galaxy and other android devices. The music played seamlessly and without any lapses.

5./ Other Features

Jensen VX7020 and Jensen VX7022 have the basic features you’ll need for a car stereo. But there sure more than the basics in smartphone integration.

  • Jensen VX7020
  • Jensen VX7020 is easy to set-up and navigate. The remote control that comes with it also makes it a lot easier to control the settings. And if you want more than just simply streaming music from your smartphone, Jensen VX7020 integrates with Pandora radio and comes with a link that you can control through the screen.

It is also Sirius XM ready and has available media inputs such as USB, Micro SD slot, 3.5mm audio and video AUX port.

It also features AM and FM radio.

  • Jensen VX7022
  • Since Jensen VX7022 is a bit more advance than the VX7020, we can expect more functional features. Aside from the Pandora link and remote control, USB, micro SD slot, 3.5mm audio and video AUX port, it is equipped with 2.1 amp charging capacity while the VX7020 only has 1 amp. Another additional is the HDMI/MHL connectivity for smartphones. This feature also lacks in the VX7020 Jensen car stereo.

AM and FM radio is also included.

6./ Price

When it comes to the price, you’d surely expect that the range alters time to time and the other one costs higher than the other.

Loaded with basic features and excellent navigation, Jensen VX7020 is available on the market with an affordable price. On the other hand, Jensen VX7022 pretty much showcases more features than the lower unit and hence, the higher cost is expected.

The Drawbacks

All products do not always work the way we expect them to be and these Jensen touch screen car stereos also have their flaws. If you are planning to buy these and replace your old one, here are some drawbacks that you should watch out for.

If you’re under the budget, the BOSS Audio touchscreen stereo could be the perfect one for your vehicle. It may not be loaded with as much as what the other stereos offer, it integrates excellently with smartphone devices and MP3 players. The DVD and CD receiver also works well with your movies and music playlists from your old CDs and DVDs.

Overall Performance: Which Touchscreen Stereo Stands Out?

The comparison between Jensen VX7020 and Jensen VX7022 sums up a reliable fact – excellent quality. The pairing of Bluetooth connection and the music streaming from your device are effortlessly delivered. The CD and DVD receivers also work well.

I guess, one of the main differences between the two is the navigation system. As a matter of fact, not all multimedia receivers or touchscreen stereos offer a GPS navigation system. This feature is already a big plus! Jensen VX7020 and Jensen VX7022 are both excellent delivering out this feature. Jensen VX7022’s GPS database is just more updated than the VX7020.

The only problem that users may find could be the future updates for the maps. They need to be purchased. Unfortunately, not everyone can spend more bucks for it. All in all, based on the performance and price, either of these Jensen stereos is a great buy.
